What is Polystrand?
Polystrand is a continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic made with high strength, unidirectional fibers that allow for exceptional strength and impact resistance. This specialty material is produced by Avient.

Polystrand can be: Thermoformed with small vacuum forming machines, Cut with scissors, Lasers, Bandsaws, or X-Acto, and Finished with sanding, painting, or scrim.
Project 1
How might we increase the quality of experience and lifespan of various products surrounding golf?
We thought about how the strength of Polystrand can improve the simulator golf experience.
Time frame: 4 weeks
Team: Sarah Galloway, Saanvi Chelikani
Role: Product Design, Material Exploration
Skills/Tools: Figma, Adobe Suite, Laser Cutter, 3D Printing, SOLIDWORKS, Fusion360, Slicer for Fusion360

Material Structure Sample:
Through material exploration, our team was able to develop a simple yet durable structure using the 3-ply Polystrand, laser cut and slotted together. This 4” x 6” x 2” sample was able to hold over 200 pounds with zero flex.

Avient Partnership with Foresight Sports:
Using our material structure sample, we were able to design an impact (and rage) resistant golf ball return slope for Foresight Sports’ Golf Simulator setup. This Ramp can be easily transported and replaced due to its manufacturing.

Project 2
As part of my curriculum at Georgia Tech, our professor Steve Chininis teaches “Make 10”, a class dedicated to taking one product, making 10 of them, and then selling them all for a profit.

Make 10 Marketplace
During a 3 hour time period, we were tasked with selling all 10 of our items, which makes the marketing and eye catching features of each product incredibly important.
